Jennifer Edwards Baker reports

For the second time in as many days, dangerous storms could sock Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

There is a moderate risk for damaging, straight line winds gusting 60 to 70 mph, large hail and even isolated tornadoes between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Power outages are all but guaranteed. A lunchtime storm that whipped through Tuesday cut the lights and air conditioning for more than 40,000 Duke Energy customers.

It will be another hot and hazy day with a high temperature of 95 degrees and heat index of 103, said meteorologist Jim Lott.

By 5 a.m., it was already 80 degrees at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

A heat advisory is in effect today for most of the region from noon to 8 p.m. In Hamilton County, a slightly more serious alert has been issued: an excessive heat warning. The heat index in that area will soar to 105 degrees.

Anyone outdoors for an extended period of time today should drink plenty of water, wear light, loose clothing and stick close to the shade, Lott said.

Wednesday’s hightemperature peaked out at 100 degrees at the airport. The record is 107 degrees, set on that date in 1934.

Normally, the high this time of year is around 86.

Looking ahead to the weekend, slightly cooler temperatures are coming, Lott said.

Daytime highs will shift from the low 90s Friday to the mid-80s Saturday and Sunday. The weekend looks mostly sunny.
